Heart to heart connection and care

At Mini Marvels Therapy, we believe that therapy is beyond process but rather sits in the realms of magic, possibility and curiosity. We are a practice dedicated to innovation, learning and growth. We live to bring joy and ease to our kids and families we work with through creative and collaborative therapy.

We seek to learn about the brain/body connection to gain a better understanding of our clients and their magical quirks to open up their world and give them more.

To us, movement is not an isolated skill but rather a complex series of events that begins at the brain level. This means that movements can be melded into a set of behaviours, sensory experiences, thought patterns and language that can affect what we see on the outside. By observing these patterns or strategies, we hope to gain a better understanding of the working of the brain to find the root cause of any presentation. The ‘why’ is very important here. Why are we seeing what we’re seeing.

Disability support for children, now mobile across Brisbane and Ipswich

To find out if your child would benefit from Mini Marvels, simply see which of the following functions you recognise in your little superhero:

    • Trip and fall regularly?

    • Described as clumsy – can trip on air?

    • Described as floppy – leans on furniture, dining table, walls etc?

    • Fluctuates between stiff and floppy?

    • Constantly moving or not moving “enough”.

    • Missing milestones – sitting up, rolling, crawling and walking.

    • Go into themselves when strangers speak to them.

    • Have difficulty communicating their wants and needs.

    • Shutting down when upset.

    • Self harming or sensory seeking behaviours.

    • “0-100 real quick.”

    • “My way or the highway.”

    • Easily distracted or difficulty with finishing tasks.

    • Startle easily or considered “jumpy”.

    • Difficulty with hearing, seeing or coordinating sensory stimuli.

    • Just have a “feeling?”

Mini Marvels works with children of all abilities

The ‘too hard basket’ simply does not exist here. We provide support to children and families with NDIS, ECEI and private funding, who have different backgrounds, needs, functions and goals.

We work with so many different superheroes, that we can proudly say that we have experience with:

  • Cerebral Palsy and other neurodevelopmental conditions

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

  • Attention deficit disorder (ADD)

  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

  • Global Developmental Delay (GDD)

  • Syndromes such as Kabuki Syndrome, Smith Magenis Syndrome and more.

Our approach enables us to treat what we see rather than a recipe model based on a diagnosis. We are all different and unique and should be treated as such.

A personal note from Kriselle…

How I become my own hero by finding my own brand of magic.

I had a teacher in school who cut through all the bulls**t and saw my true potential. He managed to draw it out of me and found a way to make me believe in better for myself. Finding and reclaiming your own power is the true magic after all. I wish for each of my kids to have this experience.

Every person in their world should know how wonderful they are; to know their magic. We are a service built on authenticity, integrity and a genuine desire to truly know our clients.

It is not my intention for my clients to move, speak and be like everyone else. I want for them to do it in a way that feels most effective, efficient and functional for their own personal aspirations. We achieve this through a therapy approach that supports and scaffolds for their greatness and by weaving in coaching tools to build their confidence from the inside out.

Therapy sessions are built on success and pitched at a level that is just outside of their current ability. There is a strong focus on exploration and play to make learning exciting and silly rather than a teetering tower of consequence if it doesn’t look a certain way. We work hard to build new brain pathways from novel experiences (the best way for the brain to release the chemicals of enjoyment).

To me there are no bad kids – just ineffective behavioural patterns and bids for emotional connection.

There is a “why” behind every movement pattern, symptom and behavioural concern and it is my duty to get to the core of the issue to have any chance of addressing it. There’s no right or wrong way, just the one that works and I am determined to find it.

Captain Kriselle. Swearing in for duty.
